Expectations
Once hired as a PEO you will be expected to:
PEOs will be assigned to work at one of the polling locations in Mahoning County. Most are located in public buildings such as schools, township halls, libraries, and churches. Voting locations are barrier free and handicap accessible. PEOs are scheduled to work at a location near their residence whenever possible.
Working Multiple Times
Because polling locations must be fully staffed for all primary, general, or special elections held in the county, PEOs may be called on to work a number of times each year:
Access the requirements that must be met to be eligible for the position.
- Assist all voters
- Check the eligibility of each voter
- Close the polling location and the voting machines (Polls close at 7:30 p.m.)
- Open the Polls
- Report to work at 6 a.m. on Elections Day

- Primary elections are held on the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in May with the exception of presidential primaries which are conducted on the 1st Tuesday after the 1s Monday in March.
- General elections are held on the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in November.
- When necessary special elections are be held on the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in February or August.
